Conversation Paper: Notes on Communicating the Value of Design Research

At the 2022 edition of the Design Research Society Conference in Bilbao we hosted a ‘Conversation’ discussing how to communicate the value of Design Research.

Our paper based on the writeup has recently been published including explorations of various questions about Design Research, for example. It is titled Communicating the Value of Design Research and you can download the PDF here (there is a local copy here if necessary).

  • Is Design Research a ‘field’ or a ‘method’ and what is the consequence of the answer?
  • Is there no such thing as ‘Design Research’ methods?
  • Should we ‘repackage’ Design Research for those beyond the field?
  • Why choose Design Research?

For anyone working in the area, we hope these discussions will be of some interest!
